Features to look out for

Buying data centre space is probably not something you do regularly, so what should you look out for?

Security & accreditations

Cabinets

Cabinets are 600mm x 1200mm & 42U high as standard, although we can accommodate other sizes if you would like us to. Features include:

  • Cabinet access controlled by proximity card – more secure than a caged area
  • 10Gb data cabling to cabinets as part of an intelligent infrastructure management system
  • A metered A and B supply feeding all cabinets
  • Cabinets monitored for temperature and humidity at front & rear
  • Standard rack power strips offering IEC C13, C19 and MK 3-Pin sockets
  • Blanking plates installed as standard

Communications

The Gatehouse is well connected via diverse, resilient fibre which offers low latency links to major peering points. Feature include:

  • Access to 250 carriers through the Open Access Partnership with just a simple patch
  • On-net with Level 3, BT, Vodafone and Virgin
  • Scalable Internet access
  • Multiple building entry points providing diverse cable routing
  • Sub 4ms round trip to London and Slough
  • Roof space for satellite or aerial communications

Customer support

Facilities for customers at The Gatehouse include:

  • Client touchdown areas with guest WiFi, TV and refreshment areas
  • Secure storage room for your equipment
  • A dedicated room for hardware testing prior to deployment
  • Separate de-box room for the removal of packaging

  • Service desk available 24 x 7 on site
  • ‘Smart hands’ support for fault diagnosis, hardware replacement and upgrades

Power & cooling

In a modern data centre, you should expect power to always be available. The Gatehouse is designed with this at its forefront. Measures include:

  • Generator backup ensuring continuity of power in the unlikely event of an outage
  • Rotary UPS backed by battery strings that protect IT load
  • Two sets of infrastructure for power delivery
  • Sufficient fuel on site to support each building at full load for 8 days
  • N+1 redundancy in all critical systems
  • All power sourced from a 100% renewable supply

Cooling of IT equipment is essential. At The Gatehouse, we maintain temperatures at 25°c, well below ASHRAE and manufacturer guidelines but costing the customer less. Our cooling features include:

  • Free cooling chillers providing more than 340 days of free cooling per year
  • N+1 redundancy in all critical systems
  • Waste heat reused for maintenance of relative humidity
  • Relative humidity maintained at optimum levels

Fire protection

You want to ensure that your equipment is protected against fire. Measures at The Gatehouse include:

  • Fully addressable zoned fire detection system in all areas
  • Fire detection and suppression system connected to Building Management System
  • Dry pipe, pre-action mist system with double knock installed in all technical areas
  • Gas suppression system in all plant areas in addition to sprinkler system
